I took my carb apart and noticed the same thing with the reed valves. I'm sure with any back pressure they would close tightly, but they are open just a little. I thought it might be normal. I was having a similar problem with my ski (Same one) and Decided to take the engine out and investigate it. So far I have rebuilt the carb, and done a lot of cleaning, but haven't noticed anything else that looks suspicious.
