Default Please help, purchasing a 2 used jet ski on saturdy.

Hi guys, I'm a new member and I would be getting two 99 Kawasaki ultra 150 on Saturday.

They are from fresh water and would like to know what should I look for and also I'm getting a compression test.

How do I make a compression test, engine cold, hot, open throttle? How is the procedure? I know there is a place on the engine were you hook them while doing the compression test but I have no idea where is it or how it looks, does anyone has a pic or can explain where is it?

For the amoun of hours, what should be the average psi when performing the test?
I know it shouldn't be more than 10% difference.

One has 80 hours and the other one has 106 hours, is this too much used or is ok for a 99 skis.

The owner said they put new batteries last year and only problem he had was a water pump which was replaced last summer.

I've been boating my whole life but don't know much about jet skis.

Thanks I'm advance for any help.

Btw, is $5000 a good deal for the twins plus a mint condition dual trailer, plus tow rope, 2 life savers, 2 covers and a 2 person tube?

Nice machines you are considering there. The Ultra 150 was the fastest production PWC for a few years. You are looking for 120 PSI when doing the compression test. Look at the video in this thread, it explains how to do it.

If they are in great shape and the trailer is nice $5000 is a good deal. You could always offer less like $4200 and see if he bites.

Thanks yamadoo, i was watching that video yesterday and it's very helpfull.

They were asking $6200 and I was able to negotiate $5000 but I was shooting for $4800 but he didn't want to go down anymore. Might try to offer less when trialing them if I see something else.

Keep more coming, want to be able to check as much as possible andci need more info.

Best regards.

106 hrs is low for that yr model considering it's only 8 hrs per season. That's only about 2.7hrs per the 3 months of summer. I doubt they took it out EVERY summer so if the ski was front loaded on hrs (used alot until the thrill was gone) then it just sat around then you have other issues to check. Just go with checking the compression. But ask how long the Gas/Oil has been sitting in there first. Then check all the other stuff.
