Default 2002 FX140 impeller change

Hey guys, I spent several weeks last month riding both my skis in a intra-costal waterway around Myrtle Beach all the way to Georgetown, what a blast, this is seriously a great place to ride!
I was on my new 2009 FX HO, and my buddy was on my older 2002 FX140.

My buddy was saying the FX140 seemed to him like it was slipping or something, not sure what that means, but he is around 300lbs, so who knows really.
So when I was talking both skis out of the water on the last day and putting them on the trailer (I keep them in a marina while there) I did not hook either ski to the trailer in the front, I have done this before and never had any issues, but when I pulled up the ramp I must have gassed it too much and the older ski slipped off the trailer on to the concrete! ouch! it felt like someone kicked me in the nuts, seeing it slip right off the trailer in my rear view!

It did not seem to do that much damage really, there are some scratches on the bottom, but it must have hit the ride plate as it slid off the trailer, and the trailer is not that high off the ground really, I had to back the trailer up to the ski, and we got the front up on there and then ratcheted it up there a little bit at a time as we picked the back up.
Well it had started to rain, or I would have been tempted to stick it right back in the water to make sure it was running ok.

So I got them home and stuck them in the garage for a couple weeks. Last week I decided I would take them in to have them looked at by a local shop. They charged me around 130$ apiece just to check over everything on both skis and change the oil. The older ski needed a air filter and spark plugs they said, and they said they did not see anything wrong where it fell off the trailer really, but that the slipping that my buddy felt might be that the impeller is worn down allot on the edges. I have looked at it recently and it does seem to be gapped a bit between to impeller and the housing , and you can hear it rattling around some when its running out of water, allot more than my new ski anyway.

So to fix everything, it is going to be around $900 to $1000, so I was wondering how much in parts and labor you guys thought replacing the impeller like this should be. I am thinking they are charging between $400-$500 dollars for the spark plugs and filter on the FX140 plus the inspections and oil changes on both skis, and about 500 for the impeller change. I do not mind paying for people to do good work and make things right, but just want to make sure this sounds reasonable to you guys, cause it's still allot of money to me.

The FX140 seemed to be starting a little slow on the trailer before I took it in, so maybe this stuff will help that also. what other things would you guys check to see if it's ok after falling off the trailer like that, it makes me nervous, having ski issues when on the water is a real pain in the ass, that's why I took them in before taking them out somewhere to ride test them.

Those prices seem about right for a reputable pwc shop. I recommend an R&D air filter as replacement because you can clean them.

You are paying for the labor, and its not cheap.

--Spark plugs - $20
--Oil and Oil Filter - $30
--New Air Filter - $95 (very rarely does the air filter need to be replaced. I'd do like pwcpro recommended and get an R & D filter and replace it yourself, but check the old one first. If its not wet or oil contaminated, it does not need replacement unless it is real dirty.......very rare).
--New Impeller - $225

So total you've got about $375 or less in parts and the other $625 is what they are charging you in labor.

You could do it all yourself and save $$$. That model ski is very easy to maintain, but many guys don't want the hassle. Even the impeller is easy to change out. I'd ask them if they checked the impeller housing to be sure its OK.

Thanks for the replies.
Yea they told me the air filter had got wet maybe? I did tow it one time (battery issue)and tried to not go fast, but maybe that did it. They said the new filter is washable and allot better than the stock Yamaha filter.
I think they said the housing looked ok to them, ill ask again.

I am a horrible mechanic, so having them do the work might be best really :/
Lets hope that dropping it on concrete did not mess something up they are missing, not sure they actually put it in the water or anything.
