would you buy a rental?
I am looking at a used 2010 Yamaha VX Deluxe. The dealership has a few for sale at $6500 with between 200-300 hours on them. The dealership also offers an extended warranty on it. It comes with no trailer or cover. Any thoughts? Good or bad? Thanks!

I'd buy one, but not for $6500. You can get a new ski with full warranty for $1500 more. A guy just down the street sold a mint condition 07 VX Cruiser with 70 hours for $4000 plus a nice aluminum trailer.
Rental skis can be an OK buy, but keep in mind they get ridden hard and abused all around.
My advice is keep shopping. Don't pay more than $5000 for a used VX, and you can find them with less than 100 hours with a trailer for that.

Thanks Ernest! I thought that price was high especially without a trailer. I am also looking at 2005 SeaDoo RXT Supercharged for $5900. It comes with trailer and cover. I was told it was "babied" as they just rode around the lake no faster than 35 mph with their 4 young kids. I think I could get the price down even more since it is the end of the season, but I've read some not so good things with the supercharger and this was the first year for them. It has 92 hours on it and the ceramic washer has already been replaced before it broke so that is a good thing. New impeller too.

I bought a 2006 Yamaha 1200 rental with ~600 hours on it for $2500. It blew a piston on the maiden voyage. I got towed in and took it back and bought a brand new one. Teach me from going the cheap way!

600 hours on a 1200 2 stroke is probably a record if that was the original engine. Those skis usually don't get past 300 hours without needing a rebuild.

700 hours on a 4 stroke is a world of difference than that many hours on a 2 stroke like the 1200. If you take care of it, you can get 2000 hours before any major valve work needs to be done.
