Default New to the PWC sport

Just got my first pwc after having boats my entire life. I told the kids Im getting if for them but who am I kidding.

I got a 02 Waverunner XLT 1200 and didnt realize how fast it was. Now Im not sure if I want my kids riding it. Since I need to get another for them too, what is everyones opinion on a 1200 in the hands of kids (girls 16 and twin 13's)? Should I get a smaller one or will my concern fade over time with their experience?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Totally depends on the kid. My daughter started riding by herself at age 14. She is very careful, and we have no qualms about her riding by herself. On the other hand I have a 22 year old son that scares the hell out of us every time he gets on my Waverunner. I spent last winter repairing damage to my hull that he caused.

Take your kids to a boater safety class. It's mandatory in my state for anyone under the age of 23 to operate a boat or PWC. Most states will have free classes, and some are specific for PWCs. It helped make an impression on my daughter at least.

Also check local state regulations. In most states, kids have to be at least 14 to ride alone.

A PWC can be just as dangerous at 40 as at 60 mph if the operator is careless.

Ernest,

Thanks for the reply with your thoughts on this.

Yea, I already had my 16 year old take the safety class as it is also required in Fl. Like you said, guess it depends on the kid and not the ski as to what is appropriate for them.
