Default Waverunner heat sensor question

I have a 2005 yahama waverunner and the sensor is beeping saying it is overheating, the ski was fine when we pulled it out of the water last and will start beeping as soon as you turn it over. Just curious if anyone has any ideas? Also, does anyone know where the heat sensor is located?

The sensor is usually mounted on the right side of the main exhaust. It should be sticking out the side of the exhaust and have one wire. If the engine is not physically hot and the sensor is causing an alarm, the sensor is bad. Replace it and you should be good to go!

Which model ski? You can press and hold the select button or on some models or the volt/hour and speed/rpm buttons on other models, while the engine is running to get an error code. If the sensor is bad you will almost always get a code.

If it is not the sensor the most likely cause is the thermostat. It is easy to remove and clean. Debris in the cooling system can often get trapped around the thermostat causing the overheat issue. If you ride in water with lots of seaweed, etc., this is a common problem.

Does it beep even after the ski hasn't been ran for a while? If it does, I'd put my money that the temperature sensor is toast or the "beeper" might be shorted out.
