Default I need your advice. I am new to PWC's

I made a deal on a damaged 2002 Honda F-12 Aquatrax. The seller says it has a hole in the block about the size of a quarter. He is offering it and a tandem trailer for $800. I sent him a small downpayment to secure the deal.

Now, from what I can find out it looks like I would have to order a rebuilt engine from SBT down in Florida for around $2100 delivered and then pay to have it swapped out by a mechanic. ...When all is said and done I would have somewhere around $4200 in it. ....
If you were me would you attempt to repair this or just sell the trailer and part out the F-12 on Ebay?

The F-12 is really nice machine but the question is are willing to put $4200 into it. It would be a good project. Is there anything else wrong with the ski that you know of?

It's a $3k ski on a good day. So you have to decide if you like it enough to be a little "behind the 8 ball" on it. Technically you will have a new machine after the new motor goes in so there won't be much to break on you.

Nothing else that I know of....maybe a few minor exterior trim pieces that cost less than $50....

I am so new at this that I wonder if I should go through the whole process or try to make money parting it out. Not sure how much profit I could make on parting it.

If you were me in the same situation what would you do if this was your deal?

I would look for a turbo F-12x or better yet an R-12x if you want a Honda. The F-12s are slow.

I noticed the Yamaha in your screen name

How do you feel about the Yamaha GP1200R's? I found a 2003 for around $3100 that appears to be in excellent shape

I love it. It handles great, is good in the chop, and has power to spare. The 2003 is the fuel injected GP1300r which is an updated version of my GP1200r. Has a few more horse too. $3100 seems like a good price too. Just keep in mind they are 2 seater but really only practical for one rider. I'd go for that any day over an F-12.

Thanks...I may part out the F-12 and sell the trailer. From the little that I have heard about jetskis, Yamaha always seems to be mentioned as a good choice....I've heard less flattering things about SeaDoo

I think you would be kind of crazy to try and fix up a Honda F 12. It was never the greatest ski to start with, and since Honda has gotten out of the ski business, people can't give them away. Plus SBT motors have a somewhat shaky reputation. With the F 12 it would probably be fine, and maybe a consideration if you were going to do all the work yourself, but definitely a bad deal if you are going to pay someone to do it. You can find used F-12Xs for less than you would have in it in the end.

Look at the GP or even better save a few more $$ and look for a used 4 stroke Yamaha or SeaDoo.

Now I am wondering if I should let the seller keep my $150 deposit on the F-12 and walk away. The market for parts may not be that great if I part it out. I may be stuck with them. I love these Forums. Such an incredible amount of knowledge here
