Default Dead on the water

Hello fellas,

Ever had that sinking feeling, like oh crap, this is not good, what am I gonna do?

Yup, that was me today. Maiden voyage for me on our waveraider triple.

The plan was for me to get the yammy on the water and drive around close to the dock, in case there was trouble. Well the nearest two ramps were CLOSED. So off to ramp three only 10 miles away. Started out slowly, okay things are great, thumbs up to the Mrs. Off she goes back to the lake house, with my phone.

I slowly open up the throttle, and wow, this thing can move. I feel like I am running forever, no big deal plenty of gas, as I near the last mile or so, the raider flat out dies, won't run over or anything. Sinking feeling sets in, and I begin to drift, no biggie, plenty of folk on the water and lots of nice homes near by. The very first people that pass by me, ask if I need help, and tow me to shore. KARMA is alive and well.

I sit on a seawall and the homeowner comes out and offers a phone and a beer, I sit there for about a half hour and try to figure out what is wrong. I can't work on the ski till tomorrow, I know the battery is strong, and the gas is fresh and new plugs. I am thinking a short in the switch or something along those lines?

Any advice from you guys as to where to start looking.
New battery, the ski ran great for 45 minutes, at least! Won't turn over or even click at all now. I am going to pick it up in the am, and either trailer it back home or tow it to the lake house. If I tow it, do I need to do anything special?

It had been a long day. Thanks in advance. A lifetime of helping others has paid off.

If you tow it in the water you must go less than 5 mph, water will flood in to the engine causing more problems if you go any faster. I would just pull it out and trailer it.

I am thinking maybe the motor seized that is why you can't even crank it now?

i had to pull my waveraider 700 through the water the other day and did at least 15 mph. could this be the cause of some of my problems?

Was there much water in your engine compartment? When I drained my fuel system last week, it was pretty quick and easy.

Pull your spark plugs and spin the engine if water comes out, could be.

there was a good bit of water in the bottom of the hull but that is normal for this ski.

Steve,

Have you tried pulling the cover off the carb and using starter fluid or gas directly to see if it kicks over and starts for a few seconds? If it does kick on for a bit, that would tell you it is a fuel issue, vs a spark or switch problem.

I am no expert...
