Default Lake George, NY

Has anyone put their machines on Lake George? My son and I are thinking about heading over there next week, probably on Wednesday, and putting in at the public launch in Hague. I believe there is a $10 fee at that launch but is there also a permit needed? If so, where do I get the permit?

Any help would be appreciated as would any comments on Lake George.

Hey man,

Lake George is a sweet Lake.I took my ski out there and had a blast. When I was there last year they charged a ramp fee and also a registration fee.The state of New York makes you get a temp reg IF you are from out of state. You are able to get that right at the dock. They wont let you go into the water unless you pay it.I think it was a $50 fee per ski. This was on the 4th if July so it might be a little cheaper.Hope this helps.Good luck

Thanks BodyBuilder. My skis are registered in NY so maybe I won't need to pay the registration fee. I'll call the town of Hague and find out. I know they don't allow PWCs down toward the end of the lake where Million Dollar Beach is but that lake is so big I think we would have a great time.

Thanks again for the information. I'll post again when I get answers about the ramp fee and registration.

Default Lake George NY

Greetings!
Lake George is a beautiful place to jet ski. However, it becomes very busy and anyone needs to be very cautious. I, actually, live on the upper end and utilize Mossy Point public launch. Any marina can issue the Lake George Park Association Permit, and or town offices, etc.

During the week, is usually a quiet time to really enjoy the lake because the launches, too, can become very crowded.

Hope this info has been helpful. Have fun and be safe!

Default Now Going to 4th Lake, Inlet and Old Forge NY

Thanks SakiSan. Your info was helpful. I did some more research and found that I should have applied for a day permit a while ago and it would have come in the mail -- or maybe a week permit for the lake. There are places you can buy the permit on the day you're putting in but it I called several and they no longer issue the permits. Not sure why. I'll visit Lake George next year and do some better advance planning.

I've decided to take my skis to 4th Lake, putting in at Inlet, NY. I haven't been on that lake since I was a kid, probably 40 years ago. My son and I try to visit a different lake every year. So far we've been to: Lake Pleasant, Sacandaga Lake, Great Sacandaga Lake, Racquette Lake, Long Lake, Tupper Lake, and Indian Lake. Actually, we've visited some of these a few times because they are so interesting and fun. I guess we'll be adding 4th Lake to the list.

Can anyone tell me if you can get to 3rd Lake from 4th Lake through the channel there?

Hey rums54
Glad you are visiting all the neat lakes in Adirondacks, but you did not mention Upper-Saranac. There, if you do any tenting you have the advantage of 'free' camping! Just jetski out of the public launch on the Saranac Inn road off of Rte 30 N above Fish Creek. That would be another neat adventure for you and your son which would not be costly, at all..
Have fun and be safe!

Hey SakiSan,

I'd like to head to Saranac Lake some day. My brother has camped up there and says it's great. The furthest north I've gone with the skis is Tupper Lake.

Next summer, I plan to take the whole family up to Alexandria Bay on the St. Lawrence but I'm planning to take my boat up there. I have a 21 foot Nautique Super Sport, which is the inboard ski boat Correct Craft makes with the engine in the back rather than the middle of the boat. The disadvantage of that set up is the wake is slightly larger for skiing but the advantage is the ride in heavy water and the larger seating space. Anyway, because we'll have 6 or 7 people, I'll be taking the boat on that trip, which will be a 2-3 day trip. Maybe I can convince my son to tow the SeaDoos behind his car while I pull the Nautique.

Are you from NY? We are a family of teachers (My wife and I in CT and My son and his wife in VA) so we have the summers off. We have worked at a camp in the Adirondacks for 25+ years. We still volunteer at the camp but 7 years ago we built our vacation home in Speculator so now we do a lot of day trips to the beautiful lakes up here.

We also enjoy snowmobiling, which we started doing a couple of years after building the house. I've been told there are hundreds of miles of trails within 25 miles of Speculator, which I believe is true. Anyway, the Adirondacks are a great park for recreartion.

Default Adirondack Park

Hello rums54
Had a long day, but a great day. We have been driving for a wilderness camp in Vt. for 8 summers. Also, worked in Education, but retired to share care-taking responsibilities with our middle sister. Would you believe we have a 25 ft. cruiser. In 2000 we joined the NY Canal flotilla which travelled from Whitehall, lock 12 to Buffalo on the Erie Canal and back again to the Adirondacks. Well, you mentioned snowmobiling, too. We are members of the Indian Lake Snowarriors. It is a great club and we've had many memorable times over the past years. Especially, our club trips to Canada on February breaks.

You realize that Tupper Lake is actually farther NW than Saranac Lake area?

We are planning a trip North on Lake Champlain, Chambly locks, Sorrel, West on St. Lawrence, Trent Canal, Lake Ontario, then East and return to Lake Champlain. Charting, researching all information to navigate through locks and canals, immigration necessities, etc. takes time to plan, but a learning experience, for sure!

The area you would like to visit was of interest to us also. This summer, Clayton, seemed to have lots of historical events ,as wellas, festivities happening, but our work did not allow us to be free during the events. We would still like to visit that area.

Enjoy 4th Lake and be safe!
