Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum. I'm thinking about buying a jet ski (yamaha fx140). The jet ski is in Florida so I'm certain it's been in saltwater. My question is how much corrosion damage can I expect from a 2002 jet ski with 120 hours on it, and how many problems am I likely to run into in the future because of it being used in saltwater?

Also, does anybody have any feedback on the yamaha fx140?

As Long as it was Flushed and cleaned right you sould have none.....it all depends on the care ...I also live in Florida my ski is still showroom i ride almost every weekend

Ditto, also ask them if they sprayed it with CRC after every ride.

flushing with salt away is the only way to go if u ride in salt

Salt away is AWSOME, however I agree with the rest of the comments, the vigorous flushes are more than enough. Look, about once a year, I actually take apart my engines just to lube EVERYTHING & I mean EVERYTHING in it & when I open them up I never have any corrosion nor do I have any of that white powdery shit I've seen in other skiis (Like my first jet ski). I run my waverunners for 20 minutes on the hose after I get back from the water, then do the famous dry revs for about 15 seconds so it spits most of the water back out. Also, letting your waverunner sit without cranking at least once every 15 days is not too healthy. I recommend you crank it up atleast every 2 weeks. That's the way I do it & 'till this day, it hasn't failed me. Oh, & by the way, I live in MIAMI & I ride in the FLORIDA KEYS! So fresh water is not too much of an option for me in the summer. CRC is great for the exterior of your engine. Good luck buddy, if you have any questions, by all means, ask away.

I run Mine on the hose for 10 to 15 min ....This way any sand you may have picked up and has made its home in the head or any other low flow places in the motor has a chance to get out ..Salt is not the only problem lets not forget that nasty sand
