origonal Jet Ski Cover moldy

I have a 2004 RXP 3-seater and the cover is a mess. Lots of black mold on the underside. It's been this way for a couple of years

One reason I am reluctant to buy new is I'm figuting the replacment will grow mold too. Should I look for a different material like from a third party or is there something I did to cause this. Trying to avoid the same situation but not really interested in doing a lot of cover cleaning.

Thanks in advance

You may be able to remove the mold from the old cover. I've had some limited success with a Lysol wash, followed by lemon juice and salt, on moldy tents and boat covers. I've also had some fairly good results by soaking them in a deck cleaner that was made for removing mold, brushing the heck out of it, pressure washing, then running them through a washing machine.

Mold will develop on any cover if you cover the ski wet. The key is to let the ski dry before you put on the cover. Same advice applies to boat covers. Problem is that this is not always practical. If you are trailering, leave the cover off on the way home. At the dock let the ski sit and dry before covering, or use a towel to dry it first.

To prevent mold an anti-mold spray on the inside of the cover will help, but may not completely prevent it (Moldex is one of the more popular products).

Thanks,

I am ordering a new cover and I wil go with The Sea Doo again. We have a jet ski dock we drive up on. Often there is water in the sides of the jet sji that we do not drain before covering.

With the new cover I will be vigilent and maybe get some extra life out of it.

Anyone have a thought on how many years you get from an origonal cover?

Ours was moldy and we had a couple of tears near the mesh breathing area at the hand grips. Maybe every 5 or 6 years is normal.
