Default Jet Ski Fishing Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

I departed Messick Boat Ramp in Poquoson Virginia at 0600 hrs and headed 15 miles across the Bay to the Fourth Island of the CBBT. It was almost flat so I was able to easily average 45 mph.
I bottom fished around the piles with big live minnow and caught and threw back two flounder that were around 17". I then tried for a little while at the spine of the rocks around the island with no luck. Around 1000 the tide died out and I could see lots of spadefish around the piles,
so even though I did not plan on diving today the decent visibilty tempted me. I got geared up and dove around several piles and speared my 4 spades. After that I went back to flounder fishing, this time I was off of the Third Island. I saw several decent flounder caught but I only managed one more throw back and a couple of Oyster Toads.
I had some plans this afternoon so headed back around 1330 hrs. I covered 40 miles and burned 10.5 gallons.
I am glad I have a big jet ski with plenty of storage. I took a couple of pictures of just some of the gear I bring with me on a typical day. Some fishing, diving, safety and paperwork.

Brian,

I hope you get a commission from the guy I am talking to about a used 2000 SUV. ;<)

Your pictures, stories, and fuel figures are doing much more to sell the ski than what he is telling me.

Can I ask what your hours are, do you get water inside the engine compartment and have you done anything with your oil injector (clip replacement, bypassing it, etc.)

Thanks!

John

John I bought the SUV three years ago with 75 hours on it this summer I had 825 hours, lost compression on two cylinders and had a new engine put it. I had the oil injection removed and now I premix. I know of several people that burned up the engine because an oil line popped off. I have since put another 50 hours on it. The ultimate would be an SUV with a 4 stroke.

Brian,

Thanks for the response.

There are actually a few threads about replacing the 2 stroke with a 4 stroke. Someone indicated the bolt positions may be the same. Anyways, the SUV I am looking at has its 2nd engine and is set for premix. The shop that did it says either way is okay, but if I were to bring the injector back online they have a kit that replaces the clamps to make it more reliable. Or keep it premix.

If I move forward I will probably try premix for a season and see how it works. I like that repair and maintenance of the SUV looks less expen$ive than a stern drive. Your figure for 850 hours is very encouraging.

Thanks again.
