Default Sea-Doo's Without TRIM Need advice!

hello all,

I've had a couple of ski's throughout the years, mostly yamaha.
GP1200
XL1200
and even some kawasuki 550's. (never paid over $500 for one)

I'm now in the market for a USED ski.

I would like to get a SEA DOO for a change. I've always liked the way they handle. I like the RXT-215 05-08. Looking at spending around $6,500

The problem is I notice many of the RXT's that I find do NOT have trim. I've never had a ski without trim. (sitdown that is).....

Is this a concern? Why do they not have trim?

I want a powerful 3-seater 4-stroker. Sea doo seems to fill that nitch. Any other's I should look at ?

I've looked at FX-SHO's, VX's and such. I am open for anything.

I'm in upstate ny and ride on Seneca Lake which is fairly big. roughly 30-40 miles long and 2 miles wide.

Any advice?
Thanks

Marc

Well Mark the two seat RXP and RXP-X both have VTS trim. I have a 2006 RXT with a RIVA STAGE III kit and a 2008 GTX-215 which is basically the same ski.Neither has trim or needs it. The hull is at an optimum angle just the way it is on the three seaters. I used to ride snowmobiles off lake Syracuse near OLD FORGE, TUG HILL. Wish I could get up there to Jet ski.

One other thing to check is that whatever ski you are looking at has the upgraded stainless steel thrust washers in the supercharger. Those years came with ceramic ones which are prone to fail after 100 hours, if not then plan to spend about $400.00 parts and labor. Starting in 2007 they came with stainless ones. My 2006 RXT has RIVA washers.

outlaw, thanks for your quick response. I have read through here researching these, and have seen the threads about the washers and the supercharger rebuild etc. Forums are a tremendous way to gain knowledge. I've had some hayabusa's and been on those boards for years.

So, you telling me not to worry about trim? My GP1200 I could trim it down and sub it if I wanted, or if i was out playing I could trim it up and about flip it over backwards. Am I going to miss this? Can you add manual trim like on the yamaha's?

the one I found is an 06 gold/blk ~90hrs w/trailer for $6500 Sound good? I will do the washer replacement myself.

What does the rebuild consist of vs. the washer replacement or are these one in the same with different terminology? I see some say they rebuild and notice power increase, is this due to the washer?

Thanks
Marc

Oh, a guy I work with is a sled head. I never got into it. Always had bikes/ski's/4-wheelers.

had 2-hayabusa's. 1-turbo that I installed from superkaos (velocity racing)
4 banshees, the last one had it all expect big bore or stroker. vito's perfomance!
GP1200 shaved head, exhaust, riva grate/plate, and solas imp...

Yes rebuild and thrust washer replacement are the same. I can see where some might pick upsome horse power with washers that are more aggressive and don't slip. I like the way the RXT's handle with out trim. MY 2006 is around 300 HP and tops out in the mid 70's. The deal your getting sounds right, just make sure you sea trial it first.

i agree with the sea trial, but my last ski was a gp1200. these things are faster than my oldies. also, i never rode a 4-stoke ski other than a fx140.

what's the obvious? i'm mech inclined, this is just new, i've been away from ski's for 7-8years and its a whole new world now!

if your ever up to the fingerlakes let me know. we have a place half way up the east side of seneca. i also have a baja 275 w/496.... just got the place at the lake last dec. went a few years without. finally i own land and am starting to accumulate some toys now!

Thats so funny, why do you think my screen name is OUTLAW? Because of the 29' Baja OUTLAW w/twin 454 mags all worked 76 mph GPS, but it is sold. gas !!!!!!!!

As far as the RXT goes it should run out at 67-68 mph @7900 rpm, I would love to shoot up there. There is a big lake south of Syracuse. Where are you on Rte 90?

if you head west on 90 you would take the waterloo or geneva exit. we are almost directly between syracuse and rochester. we head to syracuse to dinasaour bbq and shop on rainy day's.....

ya, gas..... we had a poker run couple weekends ago. ran through 150 gallons of gas in the matter of a few hours! my boat runs mid to high 60's... first boat, and we just bought the place at the lake and had a dock and lift put in $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to much.

newer boat in the next few years. just want a ski that is reliable, that's why i'm headed to sea doo!

Thumbs up

Seadoo Rocks dude can't beat those Austrian motors. I chose Seadoo naturally because of the twenty or so Skidoo snowmobiles I have owned since 1985.

A Rebuild and a Washer replacement ARE NOT the same!!! The rebuild is new shafts, seals, bearings, spring washers, clutch washers, etc... everything you see here:
Sea-Doo's Without TRIM Need advice!-rebuild-kit.jpg
At 90hrs, if the ceramic washers have not been replaced, I'd plan on a full rebuild of the S/C. I would not ride it for 1 minute without getting the ceramic washers out and rebuilding it.
The supercharger has a whole pack of spring washers that put side pressure on the gear that drives the S/C impeller. This pressure lessens over time with normal wear and results in a loss of holding power of the clutch pack and so when you rebuild the clutch, you'll regain that side pressure and it will result in a gain of power through more boost.

Between overhauls you can periodically check the "breaking force" of the supercharger clutch using a in/lb torque wrench. This insures you're dealing with all she's got all the time. If it's a little low, you can put some shim washers in or rearrange the spring washers to get the grip back. I can go into great detail on how if you wish and it's actually a simple quick check.
