what is the rattle noise you hear when running on land seems all skis have it what parts are making the noise? sounds bad in water its fine thanks

It could be a number of things, but if everything is in order, I suspect you are hearing driveline lash. My 2001 XLT1200 does it when the idle speed drops low enough out of the water.

I know that just about all Yamaha pre-2009 4 strokes have that rattle at idle. I've heard different explainations for it, but the bottom line is that its normal and nothing to worry about.
