Default 1999 Yamaha XL 1200 LTD - Beeping and display says "Exhaust"

I have a 99 XL 1200 and she runs okay but lately after I am out for a bit the computer starts to beep and the display just flashes Exhaust. There is no noticable difference in how she runs and the exhaust is not over heating. Any ideas of what this could be? Thanks.

That is the exhaust overheat alarm. You should get rid of the cat con and get a D plate with chip for reliability.

The "D" plate sellers claim it will, but I've never seen any difference, so don't expect much.

NO it won't. In fact you'll drop 50 RPM off maximum RPM because the D plate has a little less back pressure than the actual cat. These are done for reliability not performance. You can look for a good used cat but it will break up again and you'll be back to where you started. I have the D plate in my GPR and have zero issues with exhaust temp lights, cat breaking up, etc. I ride this ski 20 miles on some days and it never missed a beat, not bad for an old 2 stroke. In fact the non-US market models came with the D plate and chip from the factory. The cat con was put in to satisfy the EPA.
