Default 2010 Sea-Doo RXT X260 Problems, Help!

I purchased a new RXT X-260 last October. Rode it from the landing to the boat house and got it ready for winter. The first pretty weekend in May I took it for a ride. Got a couple hundred yards from the dock and the engine light came on. Was in the shop till July 4th weekend. Actually made it about an hour then had to tow it home. It's been in the shop since!!! The splines on the drive shaft were stripped! I was not in rough water! I've owned Sea Doo's for 20 years and never had a problem but this one is a LEMON! The mechanic says he can replace the shaft (which they did) but it will just happen again if they can't figure out why it happened. They have replace the shaft, plates, new impeller and full assembly and it won't go over 50. They are stumped. Talked to BPR rep and he says "too bad! Call the main office." which I did. They said I can't file a complaint until it's fixed. Warranty runs out in less than a month and I haven't put 2 hours on the thing! Anyone have any dealings with BPR like this that can offer any suggestions? Guess I'll by finding me a lawyer this week! My state doesn't have a lemon law for boats but our Federal government does.
I appreciate any suggestions!

Hey Chris, sorry that you are having issues with your RXT-X 260. I had the same problem with my 2009 RXT-iS 255 last summer I was on vacation and the drive shaft took a dump on me and my other ski towed me in. The splines were shredded. I took it back to dealer who jumped right on it and replaced the drive shaft, impeller and WEAR RING. If your wear ring is bad it will make the ski cavitate like a clutch slipping. They actually fixed it out of warranty by three months. Put every thing back together 2 weeks for parts. When I took it out it ran perfectly and hasn't given me any trouble since. This occurred at 18 hours. They said that was just a bad part and had not seen any others with this issue. I think if you are getting the proper rpms you have a bad wear ring from the drive shft grenading and torquing the impeller into the wear ring. You would think your dealer would have checked and replaced that. I don't think you have an engine issue as I did not. Tell them you want a new wear ring and see if that clears it up. The part about it occurring again seems incorrect as I have not had any more issues at 30 hours now.

Where are from? I live in Delaware and my dealer is J&J Watercraft who have straightened out many other dealers problems. So if they are scratching their nuts move on to another dealer who is more competent.

Hope things improve stay in touch.

I think Seadoo makes the best jet skis out there don't give up.

Default 2010 rxt x260

Thanks for the info Outlaw. Here is what they have replaced so far: Drive Shaft, Support Ring, O-Ring, Ball Bearing with Bellow, Several Fixing Plates, Gear Clamp, Impeller and Assembly, IBR Actuator, "U" Arm, Brushing-ventur and lots of little screws and plates. The dealer still has it and says he can't figure it out. It's been in the shop over 90 days! I am in Columbus, Ga and we don't have many options here. The only other certified dealer w/in 100 miles blew up my 1997 Sea-Doo XP (swapped the intake and outtake hoses) so I'm not going back there. The dealer has had the BPR rep there several times and I've called the rep and the manufacturer many many times. They are clueless. I don't think I want this vehicle back. I assume it will just be problem after problem. Not to mention that I've owned it a year and haven't even been able to ride it. If I try to sell it I loose money on deprecation. I think BPR should replace it but they have been no help at all.

Well, I guess it's time for a lawyer. The ski is still in the shop, now for 116 days, and still not running. BRP refuses to do a thing about it. The warranty ran out this week. I really can't believe they have been so horrible! This will be my very LAST SeaDoo! Never again will I buy a product from them when they won't back up a LEMON that they produced! Hope no one else has to deal with this kind of problem but if your looking to buy a new PWC, stay far far away from BRP products! $15,000 down the drain!

Got a call from BRP today. They offered to replace the 2010 RXT X-260 with a 2011 model and pay any difference in sales tax. It took a lot of yelling and finally hiring a lawyer but maybe they will come thru? I don't have anything in writing yet but at least I think we are moving in the right direction. As for the questions about the wear ring, I gave up asking what they had/had not done after the couple dozen conversations that provided no answers. I realize another shop may have been able to correct the issues and get the machine working, but BRP is responsible for certifying the shops. So if the shop can't fix it, BRP should have handled it. I appreciate all the suggestions and will let you know when/if I get my new ride! I hope it lives up to all I have read about them since I never really got to see the full potential with the couple hours I had on the old one.

I bought my 2011 RXT 260 AS last June and had one warranty issue with it; the IBR motor failed and I couldn`t get it into neutral or reverse. They covered it under warranty and I managed to put 125 hours on it before I took it to the shop for winterizing. I even hit 70 mph on smooth water one morning last summer. I`m happy with my ski, so I`m hoping you`ll have better luck with your 2011 when/if you get it.

I am in AUS and have a new 2010 GTX Limited iS 260 (purchased new in July 2011) and had the 'stripped splines' issue in the middle of a river at 16 hours resulting in a tow-in. Cost $A1122 to replace shaft, impeller, bellows, etc with 5 hours labour at $A99 per hour - interesting thing was that BRP supplied the parts at 'their cost' so new shaft (p/n 271001719) cost $A100 instead of $A550 - BUT the new parts used look nothing like the old parts removed! The new shaft does not have a rubber coating and the new bellows has a stainless steel cover instead of rubber - sounds like another BRP 'performance modification' and not a recall at their cost? Any one else had the 'stripped splines' issue on a brand new Sea-Doo (luckily the 'bad' timing chain is not fitted to my ski)?
