Unhappy R12...What happened?

Hello,
First thanks...these forums are great. I post on BMW bikes sites (have 3).

Ok I put my Honda R12 2004 (bought new 06) away for winter (same winterization as always), then when I went to use it in spring. It runs great, but it will go about 5 mph then sounds like it is slipping or had weeds plugging the water intake. It won't go faster and when you hit the throttle it just "slips" or vibrates. Up to few mph it seems fine.
So I pulled it back out and cked, no plug in the intake. Then cked oil and appears way to full? It was running fine when put away? So pulled all the oil and got it to proper level. (maybe my kids added oil to much oil).
But it still acts the same and slips or whatever.....did I get oil on a clutch or something that I will need to clean? Any help is greatly appreciated....I have no trouble taking it in for service...but it is a hassle from my cottage to get it there and back......
I have never had one problem with this ski before and kids love it.

THANKS Mike

Also check the spark plugs and also the fuel maybe it went bad. Some Sea Foam on engine and fuel will help.

I had a yamaha that did something like that, but it was a bent impeller shaft. My step-brother sucked an entire rope up through the intake!!! I'm assuming that it was running fine when you put it away? Let us know what you find out. Mike

If it was fine before they winterized it I would take it back and watch anything they do to it so they cant lie. Dealers have a habit of screwing things up and they trying to put the blame on you.

Sounds to me like the impeller is loose or the coupling but either way it may be something they forgot to tighten.

Ok sad story with a happy ending.....

My problem was I sucked up a bungee cord. This was right after I put it in the water from the winter, off my seawall roller ramp.

But went to dealer and traded it for a brand new 08 F-15X....

Well the R-12 went like 55mph (indicated), well wow the 15X hits like 68 easy. Plus now can go tubing etc. so all is good again.

Also FYI for anyone looking. I also got an EZ-dock port max, drive on floating dock. Well it is pretty nice as I just leave my ski at my lake cottage. These are bit $$$ but very worth it. Ski is out of the water and you can just pull the cover and it rolls right off and away you go.

Thanks Mike
