Default Missing intake grate?

Does anyone run there ski without an intake grate. Mine is missing and I was wondering how important it was.

Not sure what kind of ski you are running, but generally speaking not having a intake grate is a bad idea. the grate offers some protection against larger debris, i.e. branches, anchor lines of other craft and tow ropes that can get stuck in the pump, as well as get wrapped around the shaft. It also assists feeding water up to the pump, more noticeable at higher speeds.

My skis would not hit the water with out them......
