Default Rear bearings?

2002 non turbo. The rear end has been knocking but everyone says that is normal. The rear drive shaft felt really hot and the bearing housing felt super hot. While going wide open it just shut down. I waited a minute and started it up and it would not let me go over 6mph and the whole waverunner was about to vibrate to pieces. I made it home but not sure where to start to find the exact problem. Should i put a pipe wrench on the shaft and see if it turns? I didnt see anything in the impeller. Thanks for any advice.

If you remove the intake grate and reach up with your hand on the shaft see if the shaft wiggles up and down, this would let you know if the bearings are shot, and you can take a good look to see if anything is up in the pump causing it to bind, The shaft is hooked to the motor so your not gonna turn it by hand. My guess is you have something tangled around the shaft or the bearings are bad. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I had the intake grate off and didnt notice anything but i didnt shake the shaft. Seems like i can hear a ting ting noise when i run it. I just pray its not the motor.

The jingling sound is the necessary slack in the male/female splines going into the pump. It sounds like you went into the limp mode due to an FI code or an overheat. Go to pwctoday.com in the Honda forums and there is a sticky on how to pull the codes.
The way to reset an alarm/limp mode is to yank the lanyard off. Wait a minute until the dash display goes out and then restart it. It will run OK unless there is another malfunction.

I never got a beep or code. It was just like the motor was straining. I am thinking bearings are bad. Its going to the shop this time.

It only takes a half hour to pull your pump and find out. Pull the three 12mm bolts and release the spring cable connector from the reverse bucket. Take loose the bilge pump hose. Remove the 10 mm nut from the steering link. Remove the 4 12mm bolts holding the pump on and it just pulls out the back.
Taking your Honda to a dealer is risky, most have no Aquatrax experience.

If you find your problem, I would like to know it. I have the same problem, but when I turn the steering wheel to the left or to the right the noise disappears? I do not believe that is bearing, I have only 50 hours on the machine. I'm sure its a loose in the nozzle to make this noise in back so when there is a lot of pressure in the pump i do not hear any more the noise.

Let me know what you find. My 2006 F-12 (ARX1200N3) developed a bad vibration and I'm assuming it's from the propulsion system. I was on the water for approx 40 minutes when the vibration began. I checked the intake grate and found nothing clogging it. There is nothing wrapped around the shaft. I can't determine if anything is lodged between the impellar blades. I greased the drive shaft/bearing housing and took it back on the river for an ops check. The vibration was still there. I'm assuming the worst, probably bad bearings.
