Exclamation 2005 F-12x Issues with Fuel injections

I think I may have gotten taken by a seller. We just bought 2-2005 Honda F-12x wave runners. Went to check them out and idled fine, etc and seemed to be in great shape. Owner said only 50 hours and no breakdowns, etc.
When we picked them up took them directly to the water to have some fun. The moment I put it in the water and began to idle and then to speed up, I got an F1 error, something about the fuel injection system not working properly. It would idle okay, but as soon as you gave it gas, it just sputtered.
Call the owner and notice there had been a nylon rope on the steering column that was frayed, but you could still see it there.
When I call the previous owner they said they had no clue about it and that everything was fine.
Any ideas on what this could be or what I should do?
Thanks

Take it to the dealer and have them read the code. It could be something as simple as a fuel filter.

Thanks for the reply.

I was trying to troubleshoot it myself. There is a documentation that says to 'Remove the dummy connector from the service check connector. Connect the service check connector terminals with a jumper wire'.
However on my check connector (I hope it is) has 4 wires. So a jumper connector from which wire to which wire? This will allow me to press the SET & MODE for 5 seconds and it will give me back my error messages in memory. Then I was hoping to get the exact code and then fix from there.
I have had them less than 24 hours and certainly do not want to take them to the dealer to charge me more money. At least not yet.
Any ideas on this connector which wires to jump?

Green to brown with a small paper clip into the end of the dummy connector. Then reset the memory to clean any stored codes.
The memory clear is detailed on PWCTODAY.COM in the Honda forums.

@jrinjax - I was actually trying to bring back the error codes that was stored in memory, not wipe it clean as of yet.
It was my fiancee on the wave runner when it messed up. And she said the error code looked like F1 and the beeping was continual and did not stop. So I was trying to find the code in memory and go from there.
What would I do to retrieve the error codes?
