Default kawasaki 550sxd wont start

Hi there,

I have a 1991 Kawasaki 550sx which cut out in the middle of a lake a bit over a year ago and i haven't been able to get it going since. The motor has been bored out to a 650, has a high compression head and a performance exhaust.
The motor seems to turn over fine but is slow even on a full battery, a bit of smoke comes out of the carby which you'd think would be the timing but i can't see how that would have changed in the middle of a lake.

Any ideas on what it could be?

Your starter would be why it turns over slowly. Having a high compression head, your starter has to work harder. As for it dying out, not with more info on the ski

We still had the high compression head on it before it died and it turned over probably twice as fast as it does now.

If you know someone with another stand up, try their starter

The motor turns over faster now. There was a dodgey connection so the starter couldn't draw as much as it needed. The motor still wont start but every few cycles there's a bit of a puff so i guess i'll just keep tinkering.
