Default kawi zxi 1100 wont start

heres the story, I inherited a zxi1100 (not 100% of the year, 96-98ish)
and it has been sitting in my aunts driveways for 5 years. so she gave it to me.
I am trying to get it started and got a new battery and put it in and i got nothing! no clicks, no nothing, nothing on the dash.
I dont know where to start to try to remedy the problem. any help would be GREAT
thank you!

Welcome to the forum! Are sure you had the polarity correct? You have to be very careful of this as major electrical problems will follow. Was the lanyard in? I would check fuses and grounds first if the battery is correct and the lanyard is in place.

Lanyard in place??? And I think that model has a magnetic ignition key as well. When installing the battery, there is an extra black wire that goes on the neg post (I think... there are variations on all the different models & years). Anyway the extra wire falls down somewhere and doesn't get reattached to the new battery.

check fuses in ebox .....is battary charged....is the stop switch working correctly . the lanyard pulls out the outer meckinisim but inside may not be working (this happend to me once ) the small black wires as mentioned above is a earth for the instruments (gauges) could also be a dirty earth on starter or battary
