Default Testing Stator?

To make a long story short, the water muffler on my 1991 TS sprung a leak(rusted plug in the bottom) and filled the engine compartment up about half way with water. I took her home, drained and dried her, fixed the plug and then the starter just spins. I pulled the engine and removed the flywheel cover and water poured out. I ordered a new Bendix but my question is: Is there any way I can test the stator, which is wet and covered with muddy slime, before I reassemble? Thanks
