Default 1996 Kawasaki 1100

I have a Kawasaki 1100 that needs a new engine, I was looking at my 95 900 and the engine looks identical, Being a broke 20 year old I was looking at 900 replacement engines and was wondering if a 900 would fit in place of the 1100, because it is a few hundred dollars cheaper. Thanks

Jim
