Default Hard starting

I rebuild the engine on my 1998 STX 1100 this winter. Ski is now hard to start when it is cold. Compression on the engine is very good, I have plenty of spark and I am getting fuel (plugs are wet when I pull them to check for fuel). If I prime the carbs with a little gas the machine will fire right up. If I do not prime it can take two to three minutes of cranking to get it started, or it may not start at all. Is it possible that the oil injection could be over mixing the oil. Nothing in the service manuals even suggest that this is possible, it only addresses lack of oil injection. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.
