Alright i bought a 1984 440. It will start fine out of water and first time in water but after killing it a few times in water and restarting it it will not start. I pulled it back out on trailer and it started again dropped it back in water and nothing lol. When it does restart it smokes pretty bad and shoots oil out the exhaust.. Seems to have some compression issue as well around 120 usually but some times jumps from 110-150.. Here is a pic of the head i just took off..
