It probably has an aftermarket "Total Loss" ignition system. In otherwords there is no charging coil on the stator assembly. If it doesn't have a total loss system then the charging coil is probably bad and needs to be replaced.

Newbie on the search(info 1990 550sx)
Runs good. But only until the battery runs out of life. machine won't keep battery charged. Would like to know where to start.
