Default 1995 Kawasaki 750 Piston Issue

I just got a 1995 Kawasaki 750 st. I was told that the piston needs to be replaced. I have attached photos. I work on cars and do not have much experiance with 2 stroke motors. If i get the cylinder boared out and replace the piston is there something else I need to look at? What would have caused this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Default bad piston

I don't know how you would tell if the piston is bad by looking at the top of it! thats new to me! first, what was the compression in that cylinder??? then if it below the recommended psi (being 90-140psi on kawasaki's) then I would bet the piston and rings need to be replaced-- unless one piston has more carbon build up than the other than it might not have the compression it needs for proper combustion

or it could have been a head gasket
