96 zxi 110 power loss (tried everything)
I have a 1996 zxi 1100, this will be my second summer running (owning) it. Last summer i took it out and it ran great for our 3 hour trip on the lake, then every time after that it would lose power and only rev half the rpms even at full throttle. So here is a list of things i have checked or done to fix this issue, all the tests were done per the manual.
1) checked temp. sensor, good
2) checked comp. in all cylinders, good
3) changed fuel filter
4) removed and cleaned out fuel sender
5) removed each coil and ran on a tester ,all are good
6) replaced plug wires and boots
7) made sure all water lines and fuel lines are clear
8) removed carbs and inspected the internals, look like new, no grime
9) cleaned out tank vent, works well
After all of this, we took it out two weeks ago and it ran awesome even with a passenger for at least two full hours, i figured it was finally fixed after all that i did between then and now. Well we took it back out and then it was acting up again, no power, smell of fuel, and i would have to sit at idle for a little while just to be able to move back to the loading ramp, sometimes it would give me a nice full throttle pull but not for long.
The oil system is removed so i pre-mix, was told 44:1, i just changed the plugs and they were a light brown color, not white and not black or gummed up, but i changed them anyway, i haven't been to the lake yet to see if it was the plugs yet.
Any ideas... similar problems? Please help. This thing is bugging me. I want to be able to enjoy it without worrying all the time.

I'm having a similar problem with my Kawa 1100 zxi year 2000 model. I've replaced the plugs, wires/coils, boots, fuel filter to no avail. Mine never revs over 4 grand on the water, barely get it to plane, and the speedometer doesn't even register 10 mph even though I think I'm doing that at least. There is very little fuel in the fuel filter reservoir I've noticed and wonder if that's an issue with a pump or something. HOPEFULLY, someone will respond and can give some direction. THANKS!

I see you are having the same issue. I hope somebody can share what they might have found with this situation. Seems a little more common than what I thought. I guess I'm going to tear into the carbs this weekend. ugh...

ok ive checked everything electrical on my ski as well. iv heard about the exhaust manifold cracking in on a water port on these skis. it seems to me that the "trigger" for malfuction is water. i run it with no water, it seems fine, with water it boggs. so im gonna try that next. if anyone has already tried that and can save me from waisting time and $$$$ please let me know.

I have spark on all three plugs fine. Cylinder #2 and #3 have good compression, but #1-next to nothing in compression. So, it looks like I will need to tear down further to determine if it's a gasket, rings, piston, or all of the above!!!

zxi 1100
i took my flywheel cover off and it was full of water. apparently the water jacket on front cover cracked and was pumping water into the flywheel/magneto cover. i wonder if it would hurt anything to bypass that water jacket sice am not using the oil pump (block off kit , premix Highly recomended). so my question is , what is that water jacket cooling , magneto or is it there to keep the bearings cool on the oil pump?

Hey zxi, did your ski run fine with the garden hose . Mine did, mine would run great the first ride of the season, but the every tine after that it was downhill, do you think mine is collecting water under the flywheel cover during the first ride, and staying wet for every other ride? Drying out in storage in winter, and thats why it only runs well the first ride of the season?

its a good posibility. mine would run fine for the first 30 minutes, then start acting up. i would recomend checking it , it couldnt hurt, and it seems like a problematic design. the only thing keeping the water out is a rubber o-ring. It is also where oil pump bolts to the housing. The housing on mine is broke where the oil pump bolts up.
