Default 97 Kawasaki 750 SS, testing ignition

Hi guys,

I'm waiting on a service manual right now, and have a trip planned at the end of the month, so I'd like to get this thing going again.

When I turn the motor over with a plug wire attached to a plug, and holding the plug so that it's nearly touching a decent ground, I only get a spark when I first hit the crank. After that, no spark.

So, I think there's a problem with the ignition system somewhere.

Was my spark test correct? And if so, how do I go about testing the rest of the ignition system to find out what's wrong?

Thanks in advance!

PS The plugs are new and wires are firmly seated.

Picked up a service manual at the kawi dealership. Looks like a dead ignition coil.

Gonna send the box off for a rebuild...
