Default Help on buying a Jet (SXR or older)

Ok guys,

All new to this, just signed up today, and been looking around for a jet ski on Craig's list, but I realise i know nothing ! So I could use your help.

I live in Vancouver, BC, and between 2 rain falls, it is actually super nice around here and I think a jet ski would be great, Stand up one.

Obviously the Sxr seems to be the best ski out there, but unfortunately out of my beginner budget.

I've seen adds for 1995 750c for $2g. Is that good to start ?
Kawaski 750sx

What do you guys think ? Has anyone something similar for sale ?

Cheers everyone, can't wait to finally get in the water with one of those.

for that year and price your about average. It's not a steal, but your not getting robbed either. Here in the Sacramento CA area, I have seen them on CL for a 1000 to 2500 for the 95. Really check it over. I bought a brand new sxr this year, I don't ever beach it, I run fresh water through it even though I'm not in salt water. I think you can tell a lot by the hull. Just my opinion though

Hey P10sdad, thanks for your reply i appreciate it !

Just like you said I saw the same kind of machines around and not sure what makes the difference between all of them. Is the SXR a lot more expensive ? is that ski listed above good for a beginner ? i know jack on how to fix a jet and stuff, and as much as I'm willing to learn and wrench myself, I'm just a bit worried about cost of repair on those older ones.

Those 750's are really good machines, as for cost of repairs there are not bad. Piston kits around 125-150, carb kits 35-45. Those are the 2 things I think are most common to do, at least for me I do it based on hours. The sxr as well as the super jet are going to run a little higher, IMO it is a better ski, but also they are not making stand ups anymore after this years models. 750 for a beginner ski, yeah you won't have any troubles, and won't have to upgrade either like the 550, and 650 riders. If you have never ridden one before when you go to stand up don't just hammer the throttle, ease it on and make real big turns until you get the hang of it
