Default Any Suggestions for Engine Rebuild mechanic

Greetings - New to this forum but glad it is here.

I have a 1996 Kawasaki 900 Zxi ( JH900-A2). The piston ring gave out on one cylider and I have no compression. I need to have the engine rebuilt but given the age of the machine I don't want to spend over $500 for a rebuild.

Questions:

Is it possible to get the engine rebuilt and running for under $500?

Any recommendations for mechanics/shops for a rebuild? I live in Eastern Mass - Just North of Boston and have a vacation home in southern Maine... so recommendations for those two areas would be great.

Any assitance/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A top end on a 3 cylinder 2 stroke usually costs about $1200 at a private mechanic. At the dealer a lot more.

Maybe he can do just the one cylinder that lost compression but I would not recommend that since the other two can give out at any time given the age of the machine. I would just get the whole top end done and enjoy the boat for many seasons to come. Best of luck.

I ended up buying a motor from shopsbt.com, it was cheaper than having mine fixed, and it came with a warranty.
