Ill put my 2 cents in. If you have a running ski try swapping the battery and starter to the problem ski. Then double up your ground wire that goes from the block to the cdi box. Make sure no corrosion on starter wires. And also im confusd if its running on land still. Half way through it seemd like you said it wasn't doin that anymore. But anyway try that. Also my 440 started doin this when the rings went bad. It held comp but when u put a load to it it got blow by

Little update for anybody that's been following...

Fuel restrictor was the issue. Wasn't allowing the carb to build enough pressure to press down the needle valve.

Too bad I wasn't the one to figure that out. I took a pretty good loss and sold the ski - two days later the guy called me to let me know. He basically lucked up and accidentally kinked the return line. Can't believe it...
