Default 01 1100 STX DI EMM cooling

I have 2001 STX DI that has been sitting for the last 3 years. I was able to get it running again easily enough but after 20 minutes in the water the check engine light comes on.

I'm getting some flow from the water outlet nozzle (but not as much as I should) on the front of the ski and the code stored on the EMM is that EMM is getting hot.
The Ski runs great otherwise.

I've pulled off a number of the cooling lines and I'm able to blow through them without any trouble, I have not found any blockage.

When I run the Ski using the garden hose I'm getting little flow from the nozzle on the bow and it doesn't change when I rev the engine. Should it?

Any suggestions on where the blockage would be?

Thanks
-Pat

I have two 2001 kawi stx di skis as well. both had the same issue. turns out my mechanic had to rebuild both jet pumps and rebuilds the exhaust manifold. the previous owner ran them in salt water and it salt would build up and clog everything. he has one running and the other one still needs the emm to be replaced. the excessive overheating caused it the emm to stop working. its a pricey part. $1250 just for an emm

You didn't look hard enough. There must be a blockage that's causing EMM overheat error. The DI ski's cooling system is different from any other you've seen before. There are 2 circuits, one for engine and another for EMM. What you want to do is to disconnect the hose coming out from the left side of the EMM and that goes to the exhaust. Disconnect at the exhaust end. Then run the engine on garden hose and see if any water comes out from the hose end you just disconnected. The most likely place for blockage is between the EMM and the exh manifold, very likely the stator cover inside AND the bottom elbow fitting. If you keep running the ski w/o fixing this heat issue, you will burn up the $1200+ EMM.

Revving the engine will not increase the water flow when running on garden hose.

I had the same issue on my 2000 STX DI with Ficht injection. The line to the EMM ($400) got clogged and computer board for temp overheated. Water flowed, but didn't get ot the EMM. Had it repaired and all was well. I had to clear the water line to and from the front engine casing as well...DFI Technologies repaired the EMM.
