Default Kawasaki 1100 STX - burning oil.

Hi All,

Looking for some light at the end of the tunnel. I have a kawasaki 1100 stx and I've gone over it time and time again. I make sure the oil is full and everything is good. I take it out to the local lake and ride it for about 45min-hour and the oil light comes on and starts flashing at me. When I take the seat off there is no leakage of oil anywhere. It's just disappearing. This happens every time I take it out. I keep it well maintained but I just can't figure this out. I know it's supposed to burn a little oil and that's normal, but when the light keeps coming on I know that's gotta be bad.

Does this usually mean rings? Or my engine needs to be rebuilt? I was hoping not and maybe it was just a broken seal, but it's really annoying being only able to ride it for a short period of time before I have to park it. I am an IT Admin and Web Designer and don't know much about jetskis/waverunners.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the same problem, oil light blinking after just one tank of fuel. It also smokes a lot at start up. I decided to get an oil pump block off plate and use premix fuel. Then i know the correct amount of oil is always there and dont have to worry about the oil injector failing at some point and seizing engine.

I hate to rain on your parade , going pre-mix is going back to the seventies in technology. you are wrong about having the exact amount of oil. The only time that is correct is at wide open throttle, all other times you are burning up to double the amount of oil you need. Like idle ratio is about 100:1, not 50:1 like premix. It also going to pollute the air more with excessive oil being burnt not to mention the increased cost of oil and luggin oil around. That is the whole reason for oil injection. So it can precisely meter the proper ratio of oil. Make sure to carry couple sets of good plugs as you will more than likely start fouling plugs and gum up your carbs runnin pre-mix thru them. Yikes thankfully there 4-strokes now. The old school 2-strokes are fading away.
I have a ,lot of experience with 2-strokes and oil injection NEVER failed on the twenty Skidoo snowmobiles in -0 weather. Nor on the 6 outboard motors I have had. The only pre-mix engines are weed whackers.

It sounds like all three of ya have the same problem. Probably something to do with Kawasaki's oil injection system. The answer is not to get rid of it, but get it serviced. Premix is not the answer. Heck they invented oil injection before there were cell phones.

I too have the same problem, my stx pours oil out like the pump is going full throttle, the throttle cable and the DI cable are connected and work together so as fas as I can tell the problem is not with cable controls. The funny thing is that the DI is mechanical, I kept thinking that something (computer) controls the DI but it is a fairly simple system. So hopefully someone can give some advise, my plan is too start digging and see what I find.
