Default 1997 900 stx

My uncle recently gave a 900 stx and I got it to start and run but I took it to the lake today and the rpms go up and stay up but you only go 3 miles an hour tops so we decided to call it a very short day when loaded back upi took the seat off and the hull was full of water almost to the top of the battery any one got any ideas what's wrong with this scenerio.

When you drive a ski in shallow of water, there is a danger you will draw up sand, stones, and other materials into the pump. When this happens, you can kick the rpm's up but travel very slow. To try and clean the pump out, you can rev the engine and let off; keep doing this many time and it will usually clear. You will feel yourself going a little faster each time you rev when it starts to clear.

I have never pulled any stones up into the pump but I would say this could possible put a hole in the hull allowing water to fill it?

Maybe you just forgot to close the drains before you put the ski into the water? Lets hope so!!

Have a great day!!! {:O)

.... My uncle had this thing at his beach house in Malibu always ran in the ocean and never flushed it out since 1997 and didn't give me the flush kit, I got one from Atlantis industries . I flushed it out two days ago and at first a lot of sand and mud and ran it til it came out clean... also my local dealer told me to fill the hull with water to find the leak , i been out there all day and didn't find a leak so could it be possible that the jet pump is leaking water???? and causing poor thrust??? this has me pretty stumped ive worked on cars and motorcycles but i have no clue how to troubleshoot this thing.. sorry needed to vent...lol =-)

The drain plugs i know about i got the basic run down of how to operate the pwc...makes sense what you say about the sand cause my uncle told me that you can run it all the way up too shore..but the dealer said that was a terrible thing to do in the ocean..

When you find yourself in shallow water (2' or less) be very careful. Idle out of the area into deeper water.

It may be that some of the mud or a small sone got jammed in the seal where your drive shaft goes into the hull to the motor. By cleaning pump you may have cleared the problem?

Good Luck! :O)
