96 ZXI 900 Died and wont start
I just got a 96 ZXI 900. This is the first time it has been ran all season. I started it, ran great and very fast for about 15 minutes to test it out then I ran outta gas and refueled. Took about 15 minutes to restart, killed battery, had to hook a booster pack to the battery after I put gas in it. I got it started & went putting 4 a few minutes no problems, shut it off 4 10 minutes to fully strap battery back in after boosting. Started back up immediately running GREAT but died 10 minutes later and hasn't started since. What should I check? Fuel filter looks good, haven't pulled plugs yet, ideas?

I threw new plugs in in a first attempt, no difference whatsoever. Old Plugs were alittle oily but otherwise seemed good although slightly under-gapped from my info.(0.026ish). Definately isn't getting enough fuel, LESS then half full in the fuel filter when I try to start it. Can you just poor alittle gas into A carb(or all of them) to test the fuel issue like a car or what would i look for 4 a starting fluid?? Kawi suggested the fuel in the bottom might not have been stabilized and could have clogged system when we first started it up? I don't really understand how the fuel system works enough to troubleshootvery successfully(diaphram fed carbeurators?), Might just take it to Kawi.........

Check for spark first. If you have spark pore some fuel into the carbs. Starter fluid is a bad idea in a 2 stroke!!! If you have spark and fuel check compression.

I have fuel, pressure is alittle better after I changed the fuel filter. It does seem like I might not be getting spark though. I can't find my plug tester, & was told to try this way to check 4 spark.~>> I pulled 1, then 2 of the plugs @ same time with wire attached and tried to crank it with a friend looking for spark at end of plug. (Will that work?) I read in the manual to try holding the plug wire 1/4" from engine block & see if the spark bridges, but didn't go back out to try that yet 2 see if I get different results. Assuming I don't have spark at all, any ideas what a likely fail there might be being that it happened while running on the water? Thanks for your help & suggestions!!

Ok So I've got the ski running several times, seems to start & run excellently., at first...
I can run it 15 minutes, 45minutes, an hour, but as soon as I stop for more then 5 minutes it vacuum locks in some way not getting fuel and will not start till a day or two later. I had the dealer look at it & they just said it was vacuum locked & primed the system, which did nothing but have it start the next time I rode it. I am thinking of getting a push/pull primer kit, the dealer mechanic agreed this should make it start but couldn't suggest a thing that would cause it.. Any Ideas?

i might be a bit late and you allready got it fixed.... but their are fuel screens on the pick up inside the tank clean them also the breather coming out of the fuel tank could be plugged renew the inline fuel filter near the carbs and also remove carbs and remove the diaphram cover clean all. also when you get the cover off there is one screw in the center remove this screw to remove another cover you will find fuel filter screens in side the carbs but if it vacuum locking it more than likely its the breather on the fuel tank
