Default Should I buy this?

Hi,
There is a 07 stx12f for sale from a rental place. It has 650 hrs on it. It runs strong but if you let off the throttle fast it dies. Other then that it has the rental ski fiberglass repaired bottom. The place said they would give it to me for $2800. I'm considering this ski because my 97 zxi is always broke down. I don't want to buy this and have the same problem. Any input would be great. Thanks on advance.

I would run away not walk from this machine. Way too many red flags:

1) Rental which means to was ripped on and abused its whole life

2) High hours

3) Major hull damage

4) Not to mention it's a 12f, if you want an STX get a 15f they have more power. What's wrong with your ZXI BTW?

The zxi has been a nightmare first the top end agent then the control unit was bad and nobody could figure it out now it's sheering exaust manifold studs. I'v just had enough.

Yeah, that's Kawasaki watercraft. They have the poorest reliability record of the big three. The STX-f are supposed to be reliable but I still would not take a chance on one. Get a Sea-Doo or Yamaha dude!

My price limit is $3000 Which is what makes this ski appealing. What can I expect to fail on this? Iv always owned 2 strokes so I'm kind of at a loss on this as fare as engine life and such.

Well for starters the engine can fail at any time since you don't know it was maintained, not that 600 hours is a lot for a 4 stroke but again it's a rental ski. Two, the jet pump probably needs a rebuild. Three, what kind of damage did the hull have and was it repaired properly?

It's your money buy it if you want but in my opinion I'd pass, better add a few hundred dollars and get something privately owned with less hours.

The huLl seemed to be repaired properly with fiberglass mat , just not sanded smooth. I appreciate all your input, I think I'll keep looking.
Thanks for the advice.

Update: I bought a 06 stx-12f from the original owner. 120hrs on the clock 5ish hrs on new engine. He had the engine done at a shop and had all paper work so I felt good about that but then I read someware that these skis had a computer problem that was blowing engines. Does anybody know anything about this? Ski runs great looks brand new but can't help but worry that this engine will fail to.
