Default 1996 ZXi 1100 no start

I have a '96 ZXi 1100 that I have owned since 2003. It has always run very well although I have no idea how many hours it has on it at this point. We maybe use it < 5 hours a year or so I'd guess. It has always run very well although it has been a hard cold starter which I understand is something that goes with the territory with this model.

Yesterday, I put a new battery in and changed the plugs. My prev battery was 8 years old and was tired. The ski ran great for a 20 min ride. Then, the problem arose. About 2 hours later, I went to start it for the return trip to the house and it wouldn't turn over. I tried the choke but probably ended up flooding it. I had to get a tow in because it never did start again. I checked the plugs and they were wet with fuel. I grounded each plug to the block and got spark on all three while cranking. I also checked the "main" fuse and it was fine. I let the ski sit for a while and then tried it a little later at the dock. It started and idled so I shut it off and went to grab my life jacket so I could run it out. Needless to stay, it never started again, so I put it up on the shore station and headed home.

My question is, I am thinking I must have flooded the heck out of it. What is the proper procedure to clear a flood? Just wait? I am not sure what to look for next if I go up next weekend and it still doesn't start.

I didn't get any responses, so I figured no one cared.

It ended up being the rubber tubes running from the carbs to the flame arrestor. They had deteriorated very badly and some rubber chips had wedged into one of the carb butterflies. I ended up taking things apart and cleaning everything up. The new tubes were $45, which I hadn't expected. I am sure some rubber went into the carbs and hopefully blew through the system, but after replacing the tubes everything ran well. It's been winterized and is sleeping for the winter now.

Thanks for the followup. This forum is not as active as some others, but I check it with some frequency. It's always nice to learn of the solutions, and not just the read about problems. Had I read the original posts, I would have offered a lot of routine suggestions, but I would NEVER have thought of the rubber tubes. Now I have an extra item on my "no-start" possibilities list.... thanks. You are to be congratulated on finding such an obscure solution quickly. I should look under my flame arrestors more often, but I hate to remove them. A couple bolts are hard to get a socket on, and there is a tendency to end up dropping the bolts into the great abyss down under the engine.
