Default 550sx Performance Critique

Hey guys,

I posted a couple weeks ago about some problems I was having with my 92 550sx. I finally got them worked out and the ski is running great. However, I'm looking for some input on what type of performance to expect from this machine with the mods I have. I'm pretty impressed with the bottom end of this ski. It rips me outta the water (170lbs) with ease and launches me up rollers with no problems. However, I feel like the top end is really lacking. My wife clocked me at about 30 - 32mph (she thinks - following me on another ski with a gps). I also feel when riding like it should have a little more speed up top. What should I expect out of this machine with the following mods and what would you suggest I do next to kick it up a notch. I bought it with the following mods...

Mods:
Factory 1/2 Pipe
(engine was completely rebuilt last summer)
Coffman Waterbox
Keihin CDK II
Primer Kit
Impeller
Ride Plate
Intake Grate
Quick Steer Turn Plate
Finger Throttle
Bilge
I also have a shaved head that I got with it (not on at the moment). The previous owner swapped it back to the stock one because he wanted his daughter to ride it and thought it was too fast with the shaved head. How much power can I expect to gain from slapping the milled head back on? Low end? Top end?

Let me know what you guys think...Does the top end sound correct with this setup? I'll look tomorrow am to try and see what brand/type the impeller is as well as the ride plate and intake grate.

Your impeller has a lot to do with it. Different pitches do different things. You may have one on there that is designed more for low end.

I agree wit p10sdad. Its all about the impeller at this point. You could put a bigger carb on there. You could do some porting. You could swap out the flywheel. But id rather have a reliable ski. Id say sttart with impeller and the hi comp head you have. Get. Atop loader intake grate tooo. That helped mine alot.
