Default 2000 1100 stx di smoking at start up

When I first started ski at beginning of year, a fair amount of oily liquid came out the exhaust. Decided to run ski to see if it would stop and it did. However, every time I take the ski out, it will smoke pretty good at first but then stop. It seems to only happen if I do not use for a week or so. Is there any way oil can be building up in the engine while it sits?

oil seeping past check valves, oil tank pressurizing during storage, or the oil pump is failing and over oiling.

It's the check valves between the oil pump and the intake manifold that went bad and it's letting the gravity pull down the oil into the engine even when not running. That's why it smokes so much when start up for the first time after some storage. It's kind of embarassing when that happens with other boaters around.... Fix it!
