Give this a try...
It will take a bit of time but...
1. Starting at the hose that enters the back of the engine compartment - remove it completely and verify that it is clear by sight, compressed air, or water.
2. Check at the fittings for the hose that you just removed - if you see sand at the fitting in the back of the enginee compartment you may be able to use compressed air to blow the sand out of the fitting then blow air back to the pump.
3. check the other fitting and see if there is sand there - if so, you have a bigger problem as that space is in the bottom of the exhaust manifold cooling area.
4. Replace first hose and move on to removing one hose at a time completely and checking that it is clear.
Tedious but it will help you troubleshoot where the sand is.
