Default '95 750zxi with oil in crankcase

I am redoing the top end of my '95 750zxi due to low compression in the front cylinder & have a question. I got the jugs off & when I look down into the crankcase, there is about 1/8"(or maybe less) of oil at the bottom. I sampled it on a clean paper towel & it seems to be unburnt oil with no sign of water. Should I do my best to remove it or leave it be?

Thanx

you nedd to disassassemble the bottom end and clean it. you dont want any debris to reach the bearings in the crank.

You didn't tell us the history of this ski. The oil residue could be fogging oil from recent storage. It could be wash-down oil from attempts to put oil in the plug holes to free up seized piston (low compression cause ???) If you are going to do a re-build, you don't want to leave anything unchecked. If there's no bottom end damage, all it will cost you is some gasgets... check it all out an re-build with confidence. Put a block-off plate on that crankcase drain while you're at it.
