I NEED HELP starting 2002 POLARIS VIRAGE i
Hello. I have a 2002 Polaris Virage i w/ 120 hours that will not start. My (automobile) mechanic, who is a whiz with motors is stumped. Here's the story:
Polaris always ran like a charm until 6 July of this year. While towing in my piece-of-junk 2006 Sea Doo GTI (broken timing chain after only 47 hours, push-rods bent, valves out = total loss) the Polaris quit running. It was like it had run out of gas, even tho it had pleanty of gas.
Took Polaris to Jim in Fremont Ohio, a Polaris guru. Jim took one look at the Virage i and said "you have a bad fuel pressure regulator." He pinched one fuel line and the ski instantly started. He would not take in the machine for repair, and told me to take it home and fix it myself, informing me where to install a new, in-line, fuel pressure regulator. He also indirectly said that I was an idiot for not using synthetic oil and for not puting synthetic oil directly in my gasoline. Anyway, I took the machine home.
After ordering an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and installing it per Jim's instructions, I took the Polaris to a local lake and tried starting it, adjusting the fuel pressure regulator as I went. Lo and behold, I got the Polaris started and it was running well. Fuel pressure regulated to 27 psi.
I took off on the ski and ran it for a few minutes and it performed well. Set off across the lake with my two kids and stopped at the beach. Turned the ski off and stayed at the beach for a 1/2 hour. Did not beach the ski. When it came time to restart the ski and head back the ski would not start, and hasn't started since. Had to get towed across the lake. I took the ski to my mechanic, and only asked that it be started before I put it away for the winter. Despite his best efforts he cannot not get it started.
My mechanic's question is: How can someone MANUALLY access the CODES from a 2002 Polaris Virage i? Is it possible? If codes cannot be maually accessed, what is the best way to troubleshoot to locate the problem?
The ski was always dependable, and started every time before 6 July. I'd really like to get it started, as I would like to sell it this spring and pick up a Yamaha. After ridding myself of the Sea Doo, and vowing never to own another, I switched to Yamaha.
Any help in MANUALLY ACCESSING THE CODES would be appreciated. If I can't get help here I'll probably end up going back to Jim. I'll just say, "Remember me? I'm the idiot with the Polaris Virage i who doesn't use synthetic oil." I'd rather not, so please help.
Thanks and have a happy new year.
