Default 1997 Polaris SLT 700 starting issues

Hello all. I have a strange issue. If both plug wires are attached to the spark plugs, the ski will not fire. I removed the back plug and attached a spark plug to it (checking for spark). The plug was laying on top of the engine when I cranked it and the jet ski started but was only running on one cylinder but the plug was sparking. I held the plug that was sparking to the plug still in the engine and the spark jumped to it and then it appeared to be running on both cylinders. So I thought I would try this: I wrapped a piece of wire around the back plug, attached the plug wire, and laid the other end of the wire on top of the block. Jet ski started and seemed to run fine. Could this be some kind of ground issue? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

little confused about what you are trying to say but, it sounds like only one ignition coil is got spark?
break out the multimeter and check coil reading or just buy a new ignition coil.

Thanks for the reply. I knew it was going to be hard to explain. I checked for spark by pulling the back plug wire (leaving the spark plug in the jug) and putting another spark plug in the plug wire with it laying on top of the engine. The engine then fired and the spark plug laying on top of the block was sparking, but the engine was running rough (only running on the front cylinder), but by allowing the spark from the plug to 'jump' to the plug still in the engine it smoothed out. That's when I tried the jumper wire mentioned in my first post. When I check the coil what sort of readings am I looking for? Thanks again.

Well the ski is up and running. Found a motor mount that was not bolted (possible ground path??) and inside the CDI box there was a pink wire that wasn't attached. Anyone know what the pink wire is for?

Thanks
