Recently aguy with a 1200 had a similar problem at greenhulk.net.There is alot of tech info in their tech section,do a search. I beleive stator needs to supply at least 20 volts to injectors when cranking to start on it's own.1 test (sorta backyard hillbilly, but easy)was to get 2 other batteries, hook them up in series, supply 24v power to capacitor try to start,if it will idle you need a stator.Good luck.

You are gonna have to have it scanned! you have to go to a dealer for that, I know that stinks but you gotta do it! you could damage more components by guess work which will cost you more in the long run! SBT has alot of Info. on this problem!

I have the exact same ski - Polaris have a rev-limiter when in reverse (3,500 rpm) - so if it's bouncing off that it could be the limiter. Mine stays engaged sometimes, i flick it from reverse back to forward quickly a couple of times and that frees it up...

I got a manual for the jetski and saw that the way to override it is to shortcut the reverse switch completely (hotwire it so the circuit is always closed - so join the two wires going into the reverse switch)... WARNING _ you can exceed 3,500 rpm going backwards then too - and pull your jetski under! ha ha! Still better than not being able to go forwards!

GOod luck!

Did you ever find a resolution on this. I have the same ski and the same problem. I can get mine to start if I remove the air filter. I pull the filter, start it, leave it running and then put the filter back on. I had it checked over 100% with a computer hook up also. They said my ski is in great shape and everything looks great. Said hard starting is nature of this ski. I say BS mine won't start without help. Anyone have ideas on this?

Hi - okay, i've fixed mine (sort of)...

Also spoke to a ski mechanic who told me how else i could have done it!! ha ha !

1. My carby didn't appear to be working, so i stripped it down and rebuilt - discovered there was a problem with low idol screw... Ended up contacting a jet ski mechanic who has worked on heaps of these and recommended replacing it with a marine carby built for a different 2 stroke 700 engine (sorry, i can't remember what one!)...

Replaced the carby - would only start and run with starter fluid...

2. Discovered that the problem was in the fuel line, despite flushing the fuel tank, still had the same problem - a different mechanic (small engine mechanic) said that sometimes the fuel pumps (suction) don't do the trick and you need to supplement the flow with either some sort of pressure to the fuel tank or an elect fuel pump...

Installed the pump and she ran like a treat!! (still won't start without starter fluid - but once started will run all day )

Well i THINK it will run all day!!! Within an hour of having it back in the water i heard a terribly noise (thought it was lower end of the engine) but turns out that my bearings on the impeller shaft were completely rusted and corroded! they gave out and i'm now getting parts i need to fix the jet unit!) (apparently the bearings need to be changed every 40 or 50 hours - my ski has less hours than this, but eventually found out that it was used in salt water then sat for about 2 years and never used - hence my problem)...

Hoping when my jet unit is fixed it will be trouble free for a little while! I intend to put it on the market as soon as it's going and just use it until i sell it!!!

Think i'll wait until i can afford a new one without all of these maintenance problems
