I have a 1996 polaris sl900.The starter just spins over but does not catch?When it frist stated to do it would eventrly catch and would be fine for the day now it just spins!!I took the starter off and hooked it to a batt. charger and it spins freely and pretty fast but is the shaft supposed to kick out to catch?Mine does not kick!! Any help would be help.Do i have to pull the motor to change the bendix???

no its not supposed to kick out when you put starter back in the splines on your starter will slot into bendix its the bendix that throws out,,,take starter back out and squirt wd.40. or any fine spray oil through the whole where the neck of your starter slots into/not to much!!!! and no you dont have to take engine out just fuel tank bendix is behind front cover of engine a load of 10mm bolts...hope this helps mark
