Question Backfire when throttle is pushed.

Hello All. New to the forum. I have a question. First time jet ski owner and When the boat is started it idles fine but when Throttle is pushed the engine backfires through butterflies in carbs. Can someone help me out with where to start to look to find out what might cause this. I got the boat for free and the guy thought the crank or piston arm might be bent throwing the timing off a bit? Thanks.
