Default Wanna be member ?

Im going to look at a Polaris ski today. It is a 650 I think its a 1995 or 1996. The price is 1k with trailer. Tags are up to date on both ski & trailer. This would be my first ski, question is should I buy it? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This is the ski....http://modesto.craigslist.org/boa/2565236120.html

Personally I wouldn't buy any ski whose manufactuer has ceased making jet skis. It is a $1,000.00 risk. Parts are a beg, two strokes are on their way out. buying a 15 year old ski is less than sensible due to age. But if that is your budget then do what you want. Basically they are a cut above a Tiger Shark.

One other thing is to sea trial it first to see if it runs ok and you like the way it drives.

From owning a 2002 Polaris Virage i, I think it would be best to save your money and invest in a PWC make that is still in production. That means Yamaha, Kawasaki or Sea Doo. You will still be able to get parts for most of these brands. My Polaris broke down on 6 July this year, and I had a very difficult time finding anyone who would even attempt to repair it. A local business that specializes in Polaris would only agree to look at it because it is newer than 2001. They won't even give an extimate on older models.

If you can wrench the machine yourself, you might want to have at it. If you have to find someone to fix it for you when (not if, when) something goes wrong you want to avoid Polaris.

My Polaris had a bad fuel pressure regulator, which seems to be a standard problem. I found an aftermarket and put it in-line, bypassing the malfunctioning factory regulator. A mechanic told me how to fix it, but he wouldn't work on the Polaris himself.

And one other thing, when you are involved in PWC, if you don't know how to fix the machine yourself, a warranty is a great thing.

Good Luck!
