Default Battery vent tube?

This may be a stupid question and forgive me for it but I have 2003 polaris freedom skis and I've never used any battery other than the cheapo acid fill types. I just bought new AGM batteries for both of them and I'm curious what happens with the vent tube that normally connects to the battery? What is it for and is it ok that I completely remove those tubes considering they're not connected to the batteries anymore?

Hello. From my understanding the old vent tubes are there to vent any sulphuric (sp?) acid fumes away from the inside engine compartment. The old 1970's Corvettes had the same engine tubes when the battery was stored in a compartment behind the driver's seat. I believe your new battery is not a sulphuric acid type, so there are no funes to vent away, and the vent tubes are no longer necessary.

So long as removal of the vent tubes does not leave a hole in your hull, their removal should not effect your PWC. The tubes should not, however, interfere with your PWC so there wouldn't really be any harm in leaving them. Maybe the next ower would appreciate the ability to use a lead-acid batter rather than the new types. If it makes the PWC easier for you to sell, and doesn't interfere with your use of the ski, why not leave them there?
